Take a journey with me all the way back to the mid-1980s when University Loft founder, James N. Jannetides, started crafting loft beds. The Uloft seed was planted, and soon he was selling student furniture to colleges and universities. University Loft furniture wasn’t the same old same old though, it was carefully manufactured with strength and quality. James wanted to take things a step further. Because of his care for the natural world around us, he made sure that the materials Uloft used were kind to the planet. The furniture would not only be innovative, durable, and cost-effective, but it would also be environmentally friendly.
We use recycled materials whenever possible, and the timber comes from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree. The tree is tapped throughout its lifetime for the latex it produces. At the end of its production, the tree is then cut down and the hardwood is used for furniture, floors, and the like. With beautiful grain and powerful durability, it is the perfect wood for our student resident furniture. Did you know that this environmentally farmed timber is stronger than Northern Red Oak? Five Hevea Brasiliensis trees grow and are harvested in the time it takes one Oak tree. It’s no wonder our furniture lasts from generation-to-generation.
We are proud that Uloft selects materials that are kind to our environment, and we continue to actively do our part for the natural world.

Did you know that when Hevea Brasiliensis grows in the wild, it can reach 100 to 300 feet tall and live for up to 100 years?
Hundreds of thousands of college students have enjoyed better residence life because of University Loft Company. ULC serves more than 2,100 university customers who use our products. We have received the Friends of the World Seal of Approval because of green initiative, and we continue to create better furniture products for a better future for not only college campus living, but apartment complexes, new developments, and military housing. As owner, James N. Jannetides says, “We are University Loft.”
