University Loft Employees Race Clean and Green in the Inaugural Indy 5 Bike Race

University Loft Arbor Day Bike Race WinnersNot far from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, on the outskirts of Greenfield, Indiana, a somewhat quieter but still highly competitive race took place a few weeks before the Indy 500. The race was a 5-lap bicycle race; the race course was the pavement circling the University Loft Company corporate headquarters. The competitors: Four teams of three University Loft employees each. The winners? Adam Bronstrup, Aaron Long and Raphael Ramirez, racing under the team name of Two Studs and a Bearded Man. Yes, you read that right.

The race was part of the annual University Loft Company Arbor Day celebration. The highlight of the day (aside from the bike race, of course) was the planting of White Pine seedlings by more than 30 students from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. The students planted the trees just a few feet from past plantings which are going strong and growing tall.

University Loft Arbor Day Tree Planting 2013Of course, these seedlings planted at the University Loft headquarters are just a few of the thousands of trees planted by and for University Loft. Many of those trees, naturally, are a species of Environmentally Farmed Timber hardwood used in the manufacture of University Loft’s solid wood modular furniture for college student dorm rooms.

And that bike race? It was the inaugural event, but even the Indy 500 had to have its humble beginnings. Look for another race to be contested, and more trees to be planted, next year.

I remember seeing James standing in the bottom drawer of a dresser – a memorable demonstration of an excellent product and an individual who was justifiably proud of his product. On several occasions James worked with me to modify some of his furniture to accommodate space limitations. No other vendor has provided me with that kind of willingness to serve a customer’s needs. Maybe others have had experiences they would like to share.
