University Loft Can Help Your College Take the LEED

Many businesses claim to be environmentally-friendly or “green”. But how many of them can actually help your institution become certified via the internationally recognized LEED system? University Loft can. We specialize in the green manufacture of college furniture, and our commitment to providing green solutions for college dorms can help your school become LEED certified.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This certification system was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998 and has evolved to become the international standard recognizing excellence in environmental leadership and energy responsibility for building and institution design.

LEED 2009 consists of a rating system totaling 100 points (with 10 bonus points also possible) for each building or institutional category. One of these categories is LEED for Schools. By amassing points within the LEED system, universities can become LEED recognized at one of four levels: Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. That’s where University Loft comes in. Because we build green student furniture, Uloft can help your school earn points to meet certain criteria and become LEED certified.

You see, we know a thing or two about environmental responsibility. We’ve been given the Friends of the World Seal of Approval each year for more than a decade, and our Green Plan is a long-term environmental strategy that enables us to make the world a better place. Can we help your school do the same?
