9.8% unemployment, Companies going bankrupt or closing their doors, and
individuals struggling with too much debt, those are the headlines in
the news today. But, wait a minute, one company in the heart of Indiana
has a big banner on the side of its building proclaim "Immediate
Openings". University Loft Company (ULC) is hiring production and
warehouse personnel. There is a different kind of struggle going on for
ULC as it seeks to meet demand for its furniture products.
When
sales began to sag in its normal venues (contract sales to University
& College housing) the Company won several contracts with the U.S.
Military and Big Box Stores such as Sam's Wholesale Club and Lowe's .
The U.S. Military sales along with ULC's University and College orders
have driven the need to staff the Company's production line.
"Traditionally, our production followed the seasonal demand of schools
across the USA, but now with Big Box and Government orders we are
leveling out our need to a year around work force." Said James
Jannetides, founder and CEO of the Company. "We are proud to be doing
our part to help Indiana families keep their homes and pay their bills."
Jannetides continued. "We encourage qualified individuals to apply for
work with us. We have immediate need for individuals with wood working
and metal skills. Applications being accepted."
A cursory glance at the Company confirms the
busy state of business affairs. A large number of supply containers
line the buildings shipping docks and a peek inside on the warehouse
floor reveals hundreds of orders poised in lanes ready for shipping.
Warehouse workers scurry about on forklifts in blur of activity
throughout the Company's main facility in Greenfield, Indiana. During
the first half of this year the Company has hired a new HR Manager, IT
Director, Plant Manager, some supporting Sales personnel and five
college interns. In the second half of 2010 its expected a Media
Director, a Network Administrator and three new Sales Territory Managers
will be hired. Jannetides credits faith and strong management for
the company's current good fortune. "Economic times are what you make
of them," comments Jannetides, "and careful thinking and planning always
provides a way."
James Jannetides founded ULC in 1986 while living in a
Southern Illinois University dorm. In the years since ULC's beginnings
in a college dorm room, James Jannetides has grown ULC into an
industry-leading enterprise which currently holds accounts with over
1,200 colleges and universities. The Company has used skills in the
design of wood, metal and glass furniture to expand into hospitality,
clubs, churches, U.S. military, fashion plumbing, kitchen and bath
markets. ULC has two major U.S. manufacturing facilities; a 508,000 sq.
ft. building just outside Indianapolis, Indiana and a second plant in
Morristown, Tennessee.
Committed to providing a superior product
with an unmatched service level, ULC is the leader in the contract
furniture industry.
